Giordano is a 3.5-year old male Neapolitan Mastiff, and he is a BIG boy, weighing about 160#.  Gio lived his entire previous life as an outside dog, and when the neighbors repeatedly complained about his barking, his previous owner dumped him at a high kill shelter.  One of our rescue partners got Giordano out of the shelter, and he is now fully vetted.  They’ve started working on training with him, and his future family will need to continue that, and work on socialization.

Giordano is potty trained, he knows “sit” and “down”, and he takes treats nicely. He is not good on a leash, so needs work on that, and he startles from loud noises. Giordano has never been around other dogs, and he does not like cats, so he will need to be an only pet.  It is very difficult to get Giordano into a car, so transporting him is NOT an option, and he must stay in Northern CA for that reason.

Giordano is an affectionate boy who enjoys being with his humans. He appeared not to know how to play when he first came home to foster, but with time he was tugging on a giant rope toy and running zoomies in the yard. He is very smart. He learns quickly. Positive reinforcement and chicken nuggets are his go to high value reward treat. Speaking of food, Giordano doesnt like to share, so during his meal times, he should be offered his meal and left alone to eat. Due to being undersocialized, he can become insecure in situations he has not encountered before. Loud noises will at times startle him. He can be cautious and slow to respond at times. He will require patience and experience as he adjusts to his new home. He just wants to be indoors and with his family.

We realize that Giordano’s stunning looks will probably attract a lot of attention, and while lots of people may want him just because of that, he is NOT the dog for just anyone.  We are looking for a very specific adopter for this boy, so please don’t apply for him unless you fit all of the following parameters:

~ Must live within a 4-hour radius of Sacramento, CA
~ Must own your own home
~ Must have 6’ fenced yard
~ Must have no children under 16-years old living in the home
~ Must have NO other pets
~ Must have Neo experience (or experience w/ Corso, Boerboel, Presa, Fila or Tibetan Mastiff is ok, too)
~ Must be willing to spend a lot of time with him and continue his training (Please have a plan for that)

Yep, we are basically looking for a unicorn, but we know the right family is out there somewhere!

~ If you fit ALL of the above criteria and you’re interested in adopting Giordano, please complete a family profile on our website, and we’ll get in touch with you. Thanks!
